Tiny Moments
A downloadable tool for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android
Introduction
Tiny Moments is a free, minimalist journal / microblogging app that you can use for yourself or with your close friends. It's tiny enough that 13 of these would fit inside a floppy disk! It's meant to run on the Delta Chat messenger which is available for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux, and even Ubuntu Touch. You can also use it on monocles chat and Cheogram as well! You can use it for:
- Logging your day.
- Creating a private blog for a circle of friends.
- Posting occasional updates for the whole group.
Everything is automatically encrypted. The data can only accessed by you or, optionally, your friends. (This is guaranteed in Delta Chat, but you have to make sure the group chat is encrypted on monocles and Cheogram.) Offline-first, no subscriptions, no ads. This app cannot connect directly to the internet so no telemetry either! You can find the code on Codeberg.
Anti-capitalist software
This is anti-capitalist software, released for free use by individuals and organizations that do not operate by capitalist principles.

Single player mode
Make sure you have Delta Chat installed. For single player mode, you can simply send the file to yourself and that's basically it! Everything is saved automatically, encrypted, and synced between your devices as well if you have the same Delta Chat account set up on them.

Multiplayer mode
If you'd like to use this with friends, you can send the file to the group, and it will work the same way. Anyone in the group chat are able to use the app and see everyone else's posts. It works offline, so you don't have to be connected to the internet whenever you make a post. It's able to sync automatically when your device is connected.
And the data is still encrypted and only you and the people in the group are able to see the data! (This is guaranteed in Delta Chat, but you have to make sure the group chat is encrypted on monocles and Cheogram.) Additionally, the data is stored on people's devices and not in the cloud so the chance of things leaking is much lower.

Styling text
Markdown is an easy way of specifying rich text. I find it especially useful in Tiny Moments because I often create lists of things that I did during the day. Take the following piece of text for example:
- Had a great time at the park - Called a friend - Napped
Wouldn't it be better if it was rendered nicely like this?
- Had a great time at the park
- Called a friend
- Napped
Or perhaps an ordered list like this?
- Fennel
- Scheme
- Interlisp
It will do just that because having an asterisk, a dash, or a number with a dot at the beginning of a line is Markdown! Markdown allows you to specify a lot of styles, but I think only a handful of styles make sense in a short-form journal. So I figured I would write the parser myself to use as little code as possible, but also to have fun figuring out how to write one. I've never written one before though so expect bugs! 🥲 Right now, it supports, bolding, italicizing, paragraphs, inline code, unordered lists, and ordered lists at the moment.
You can italicize things by surrounding text with an *asterisk* or with _underscores_. You can bold text by adding **two asterisks** or __two underscores__.
Finally, blockquotes are also supported by having a ">" at the beginning of the line:
> This is a blockquote
Hopefully in the future I can add ordered lists as well and also allow making lists of lists. Anyway, I hope you like it!

I’ve been looking for an open free alternative to the family moment tracking functionality we first experienced via the Notabli iOS app and at notabli.com and I think Tiny Moments in conjunction with Delta Chat finally gets us there. Quote posts were always our favorite moment type so markdown block quote support would be welcome in the future, but kudos on a very useful app!
oh amazing it's my first time hearing about Notabli that looks excellent. let me work on block quote format support!
blockquote is now supported! https://durianbean.itch.io/tiny-moments/devlog/1067344/0228-blockquote
Thanks for adding that blockquote functionality so quickly. One thing I was surprised to discover is that imported entries don’t seem to be editable so I can’t update them with the new formatting. Is that a bug or just a consequence of the way webxdc sync and storage works?
Ah yes that is an unfortunate consequence because of the design of webxdc people's ID changes between instances of apps so I don't know yet how to get around that. Maybe there can be an override button of some sort?
I needed PRECISELY THIS THING and it works GREAT
omgosh thank you so much i'm so glad you're getting some use out of it!!
